Dr Charity Mkone
I am a Clinical Psychologist and psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapist, registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
I completed my Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and PhD in Psychology at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits).
My approach to psychotherapy is grounded in the belief that our emotional lives often have a history. Sometimes we find ourselves feeling anxious, overwhelmed, lonely, dissatisfied, or caught in patterns in our relationships without fully understanding why. At other times, we may know what is troubling us but struggle to make sense of why it continues to affect us in the way that it does.

How I think about therapy
Psychotherapy offers a space to become curious about these experiences. Together, we can explore the thoughts, feelings, relationships and past experiences that may be shaping how you understand yourself and the world around you. This can help bring greater understanding to patterns that may previously have felt confusing or difficult to change.
I work collaboratively with my clients, creating a space where difficult experiences can be thought about with care, honesty and curiosity.
“My aim is not simply to alleviate symptoms, but to help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships, and to create possibilities for living differently.”
